Pinfold Pottery - Clare Farley
Useful and Beautiful Ceramics from Penrith, Cumbria.
My maiden name was “Potter”, and I seem to have been making things from clay ever since I was a small child. Largely self-taught, the stoneware hedgehogs came first - from small babies of a couple of centimetres to giants of two feet – I am a keen gardener and wanted to create outdoor planters and sculpture that showed off my plants at their best, complimenting rather than overpowering their beauty.
I am well known for my Herb pots, Funky chickens, Fat Hens, “Ruff Ducks”, tactile Garden Planters of all sizes and more recently Figures.
I dig some of my clay from nearby Berrier and use local wood ash in my glazes.
I love to connect my work to Cumbria and its landscapes, crafting and capturing something simple and honest that can be used and appreciated.
All my work is fired to 1260c or above, so they can safely stay outside all year round.
